The whole trip was just an amazing experience and there are pages of stories I could tell. Our group from USF became very close, which lead to many lasting memories – most coming from van rides, bonfires, and team dinners (which often included some sort of chant or musical accompaniment lol). This trip was definitely one I would recommend.

10 Days

DAY 1: Bus trip down to Florida. About 30 college students packed on a bus. Fun, fun, fun. We watched the strangest movies – one contributing to several future comical moments on the trip. By the time we reached Florida new friendships were being shaped.

Day 2: Arrived in Florida at about 5pm. Walked to a restaurant for dinner – good food. Then we attempted to take a taxi to a CVS, but ended up at the wrong CVS. Oh well, my friend would have to just not have a new camera card.

Day 3: Time to board the smallest airplane ever and cross over to Andros, Bahamas to begin a week full of excitement. I was in one of the first of our group to arrive at Forfar. We spent our first moments taking in the sun on the beach before we headed towards the lodge to play our first round of beach volleyball. Finally the last group arrived to Forfar so we could officially begin our adventure.

Day 4 – 10: Each of these days were just packed to the max! One day we would get up before light to start a day long ultimate birdwatching hike and the next we would be out on the boats in the middle of the ocean swimming around beautiful reefs and the fish that live within (We saw lots of fish and sting rays, but only one shark -yikes). We had the opportunity to visit several freshwater blue holes – so much more fun than swimming in a pool or lake at home. Other days we did short trips to surrounding villages to meet some of the Androsian people, go shopping in local markets, and even walked to church.

HIGHLIGHTS

Crossed a shark infested stream to go birdwatching – yes thrilling, but also scary. (Glad I didn’t know this when I crossed it!)
Climbed down into Captain Henry Morgan’s Cave where he hid his treasure and stood on Morgan’s Bluff where he tricked boats into unsafe waters where he could raid his ships.
Snorkeled completely around Pigeon Cay Island.
Went to Junkanoo – Junkanoo is an awesome night street parade that includes music, dancing, and bright costumes. The groups come from all over the island to compete.
